Thirty-five kindergartens and elementary schools from across the Prefecture of Drama collected two and a half tons of food as part of the Drama Food Bank’s campaign “CHILDREN OFFER LOVE.”
The project team of the Ladies’ Union of Drama distributed “boxes of love” to the schools with the aim of raising awareness among students about food collection in anticipation of Easter. The children collected non-perishable food and personal hygiene items—goods that the organization’s vulnerable beneficiaries cannot afford to purchase. The participating schools were the elementary schools: 1st, 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, Arkadiko, Kallifyto, Nea Amissos, and Xiropotamos, as well as the kindergartens: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 16th, 17th, 19th, 21st, 26th, 27th, Arkadiko, Kallifyto, Mavrovato, Nea Amissos, and the Prosotsani Junior High School, one of the Ambassador Schools of the Drama Regional Education Directorate.

The Drama Food Bank is the fourth food bank in Greece, founded by the Ladies Union of Drama – House of Open Hospitality in October 2019. It is a member of the European Federation of Food Banks (FEBA) and its primary goal is to combat hunger and food waste, meeting the food needs of 1,248 beneficiaries on a daily and monthly basis. The information and awareness-raising initiatives it carries out each year are: “CHILDREN OFFER LOVE,” with food drives at Christmas and Easter. “STUDENTS GET TO KNOW THE DRAMA FOOD BANK,” where children watch a short presentation and participate in an interactive quiz, visit the facilities of the Drama Food Bank, prepare packages containing non-perishable food and personal hygiene products, and distribute them to beneficiaries. “THE CHILDREN-AMBASSADORS OF THE DRAMA FOOD BANK,” the initiative includes signing agreements with schools to promote the project in the local communities where the children live.
“CHILDREN DECORATE THE FB’s DRAMA CHRISTMAS TREE,” students decorate the Christmas tree with 3D food models, spreading the message of fighting hunger and waste. “FB’s PLATE OF LOVE,” in collaboration with restaurants during the Christmas and Easter seasons, where customers select a specific dish and a symbolic amount is donated to the organization.
