Informative Workshop for the General Public on the topic: “The Physics of Radiation in the Service of Survival. Scientific and Theological Responses in Times of Crisis," organized by the Ladies' Union of Drama - HOH under the auspices of the Holy Metropolis of Drama.
The conference will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Cultural Center of the Holy Metropolis. The speaker is the distinguished Dramatian physicist and researcher Symeon Sachinidis. Mr. Sahinidis will explain in simple terms how scientific knowledge of nuclear physics, combined with agronomy, can be transformed into a practical survival guide, offering an effective defense to shield the food chain and protect public health from radiation. Also significant to understanding this phenomenon will be the contribution of Amvrosios Karatsioubanis, a Ph.D. candidate in Theology, who examines the connection between major social crises, particularly under the threat of a nuclear danger, and the emergence of para-religious phenomena that fuel public panic.
The purpose of this presentation is to highlight that misinterpreted eschatology and a focus on doomsday scenarios are deviations stemming from a peculiar form of spiritual egotism rather than from authentic Orthodox tradition. In contrast, the genuine theological response focuses on repentance and spiritual vigilance, recognizing that crises are the result of human greed and the desire for domination. The presentation concludes that proper spiritual guidance serves as a factor of calm and social cohesion, reinforcing the work of Civil Protection.
