Seventeen "lucky" senior citizens had the unique opportunity to attend the Benaki Museum's "Time for Museum" educational program online.
The program took place on Tuesday, September 23, at the Ladies' Union of Drama - HOH. During the live online tour, which was attended by beneficiaries of the organization with memory difficulties or early dementia, museum objects related to the basic components of the Mediterranean diet, proven to be beneficial for mental health, were highlighted. Engravings and travel texts narrated the customs of eating during the Ottoman period, while agricultural tools represented traditional crops from the early 20th century. The online visit was enriched with rare photographs of rural life, evoking memories from the participants' personal experiences. The beneficiaries recalled memories and reminiscences from the past and recounted their own stories. For the first time, "Time for Museum" was held in Drama on the occasion of Alzheimer's Awareness Month in September. As part of the awareness days for the disease, the Benaki Museum took the initiative to connect online with organizations active in the region, strengthening its ties with areas where it has a strong presence in the local community.
