Talking about domestic violence in young children at the 6th primary school

On Monday 17 March 2025, the Ladies’ Union of Drama – H.O.H., using the Norwegian methodology, held a pilot workshop for young children on domestic violence.
The activity was carried out in collaboration with her scientific partner and Dean of the Department of Social, Political and Economic Sciences, Mrs. Sevasti Chatzifotiou. This was the third pilot educational workshop attended by 39, 4th grade students and three teachers of the 6th primary school of Drama, aiming to inform and prevent domestic violence through education. The workshop was based on the Norwegian educational tool on which the Ladies’ Union was trained, where the pupils analysed pictures and cards related to aggression, expressing their thoughts and feelings. The discussion highlighted the importance of recognising the signs of violence in the family environment and informing a trusted adult. Throughout the activity, students participated with undiminished interest, discussing the emotional and psychological impact of domestic violence and highlighting the role of teachers, school psychologists and helplines as safe support networks.
The Ladies’ Union of Drama – H.O.H. continues its commitment to the prevention of domestic violence, offering educational programs that enhance the knowledge and empowerment of children. The implementation of such activities in schools is a crucial step in promoting prevention and awareness, as it provides children with the opportunity and the possibility to express themselves freely and raise their questions on critical social issues. Open debate and the strengthening of emotional security are essential elements in creating a violence-free society.
