With a touching spot in which some beneficiaries talk about the benefits they gained, the program “EoWRA – Empowering women of marginal areas”, implemented by the Union of Ladies of Drama – Η.Ο.Η.
Beneficiaries from the four peripheral municipalities reflect their opinion and explain how important it is to know women’s rights. Through their voices, the importance of support and education to combat gender violence and promote equality is highlighted. Otherwise, the last seminar in the municipality of Nevrokopi, with the participation of 24 women, ended today. This was the 8th training workshop of the programme, which focused on empowering women and combating gender-based violence.
The participants showed great interest, asking questions and expressing their wish to continue similar actions. In the framework of this project, the team of the Ladies’ Union of Drama – H.O.H., visited various villages of the Prefecture of Drama, such as Kalambaki, Adrian, Doxato, Paranesti, Prosotsani and Nevrokopi, in order to hold two workshops in each of the four municipalities. A total of two hundred women were informed and sensitized on gender and domestic violence issues, and had the opportunity to share their experiences and participate in open discussions, strengthening networking and solidarity among them.
The 8-month “EoWRA” project aims to provide a comprehensive model of holistic management of domestic violence through training by the Child Health Institute and the Norwegian organisation Alternative to Violence. At the same time, it will assist in the creation of the Child Protection Regulation, as well as in the implementation of thematic actions in the 4 regional municipalities of the South Drama Municipality of Prosotsani, Nevrokopi, Paranesti and Doxato for women aged 18-60 years, aiming to promote gender equality in Greece through experiential workshops. The educational workshops are conducted by the Dean of the Department of Social Work of the Democritus University of Thrace, Chatzifotiou Sevasti, in collaboration with the team of the Ladies’ Union of Drama-H.O.H., which is also the implementing body of the program.
The fulfilment of the first objective of the programme, with the completion of the Civil Protection, as well as the implementation of the first training workshops in the Municipalities of Doxato and Paranesti, guarantees a better approach and response to all forms of violence.
The project is supported by the Empowerment Programme for Civil Society Organisations active in the field of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, designed and implemented by Social Dynamo, the NGO Hub of the Bodossaki Foundation.
