“TIME TO LEARN” for Roma women

The “TIME TO LEARN” project team continues its weekly interventions to inform and empower Roma women.
The team reaches out to Roma women in the two camps of Filippou and Ampelokipoi, as well as women in the urban area in order to inform them about human rights issues, values of the European Union, forms of gender-based violence and recognition of its forms. From next October, interventions will start in municipalities of the Prefecture of Drama, such as for example in Kalambaki of the Municipality of Doxato where there are Roma populations and there is a need to inform women.
At the same time and in the context of the project, the preparation of the graffiti at the entrance of the Open Hospitality House, the advertising spot and the educational material with which the interventions will be made, continues unabated.
The project “TIME TO LEARN” started in March 2024 and has a duration of 12 months. It is about protecting and promoting the rights and values of the European Union/ BUILD. It aims to train 30 Roma women living in the areas of Filippou and Ampelokipi of Drama, in human rights, the treatment of anti-gayism, the strengthening of the implementing body, the exchange of know-how and good practices with institutions in Greece and abroad.
The implementing body, the Ladies’ Union of Drama-H.O.H., carries out weekly interventions in the two camps in order to inform the women, and will prepare a report on possible human rights violations which will be delivered to the Public Defender in Athens. The partner “Alysos Alert” will transfer to the implementing body the experience and know-how it has in preventing and combating domestic violence against Roma women.
The project “Time to Learn” is implemented in the framework of the BUILD project, with the “Ladies’ Union of Drama – Open Hospitality House” and the partner organization “Alysos Alert”. The project “Building a robust and democratic civic space” (BUILD) aims to protect, promote and widely recognise the fundamental rights and values of the EU, by supporting civil society organisations (CSOs) in Greece and Cyprus and strengthening their capacities and sustainability.
